The Quiltmaker’s Gift

Summary: A quilt maker who makes amazing quilts and then gives them to the poor. She is asked by a greedy king to make a quilt for him.  The get his very own quilt, the king must abide by certain conditions and learn to give himself.  When he does so, he undergoes a change of heart.

This is a great book to talking about how to treat other and helping those who have less. Students can make a connection to how they have or can help other and how people help others throughout the world.

this book also lends itself well to teaching students about identifying the lesson or of the story, or the author’s message. The author clearly shows how important it is to be giving and to help other less fortunate.  Take time to discuss what lessons students can learn from this book and who the author wrote the story.
