Mini-Lesson: Problem and Solution
This is a great book for showing students a character with a simple problem and the multiple solutions he tries. After reading this first page, have students share what Badger’s problem is. As you read through the book, have students verbalize the attempts badger makes to solve his problem. At the end, review the problem and solution cycle, then have the students share what they really think Badger’s problem was at the end of the book.
Mini-Lesson: Theme
This is a simple book to discuss themes. In the end, Badger learns that he should be thankful for what he has. This provides a great springboard to discuss what it means to be thankful.
