Hello, Hello!

Hello, Hello!

Written by Miriam Schlein
Illustrated by Daniel Kirk

Summary: This book shows children the different ways that animals say hello to each other. It is written in question and answer format, and has a nice rhythm to the passages.

Mini-Lesson: Main Idea and Details
The structure and topic of this books lends itself to teaching main idea and details. Students can easily identify the main idea of the story: Animals say hello to each other in many different ways.  Create a web with the students, putting the main idea in the middle and adding details about how the different animals say hello around the outside.

Mini-Lesson: Connections
The topic of saying hello also lends itself to talking about literal connections.  How do people say hello?  Have you ever seen animals say hello to each other or to people?  How do people say hello in different languages. This book can spark a great discussion about cultures and to any animal study.
